Chase Gordon allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings and AJ Wineinger had two hits and knocked in a run on Friday as host St. Ignatius sent Serra to a second consecutive defeat in West Catholic Athletic League play.
St. Ignatius scored two in the bottom of the fourth to break a 1-1 tie and then called on Gordon and Archer Horn, who pitched two-thirds of an inning, to finish off the Padres.
Beau Schaffer also had an RBI for SI.
Ian Josephson scored Serra’s only run and Ian Armstrong and Josiah Rodriguez had its only hits.
Serra fell to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in the WCAL. The Padres are now a game behind Valley Christian for first place.
SI improved to 15-6, 6-5.
James Lick is still in great shape to win the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s West Valley Division championship.
It just won’t reach the finish line undefeated in league play after Mt. Pleasant turned a three-run deficit after one inning into a blowout victory called after the sixth because of the mercy rule.
Joshua Santos went 4 for 4, drove in four runs and scored twice and Aiden Torres Ochoa and four hits, including a double, and two RBIs to lead Mt. Pleasant, which upped its record to 9-8, 8-3.
The Cardinals finished with 22 hits.
Marcus Cohen had two RBIs and Enrique Mendez had two hits for Lick, which fell to 10-3, 10-1.
Lick leads Mt. Pleasant and Overfelt by two games with four to play.
Tied 1-1, Granada scored three in the bottom of the sixth to turn back Dublin in East Bay Athletic League play.
Nate Brown had two hits and knocked in two runs and Parker Warner and A.J. Martinez each had an RBI for the Matadors, who improved to 21-1, 10-1.
Granada also got strong pitching from Mason Ravera and Logan Robinson.
Ravera allowed one run and struck out six in five innings and Robinson struck out five in two innings.
Brandt Nunemacher drove in Dublin’s only run as the Gaels fell to 9-13, 4-8.
De La Salle scored three in the visitor’s half of the seventh to take a six-run lead. It needed the extra offense because Monte Vista rallied for three in the home half of the seventh before the final out was recorded in this EBAL game.
Joe McGee had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice and Tyler Spangler, Hank Tripaldi and Ethan Sullivan each had an RBI to lead De La Salle, which improved to 14-4, 8-2.
Brandon Clizbe had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Monte Vista, which dropped to 12-9, 4-7.
Los Altos scored two in the bottom of the third to break a 2-2 tie and four in the fifth to take control as the Eagles stayed red hot in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s De Anza Division with a victory over Wilcox.
Kyle McKinney had two hits and two RBIs, Gavin Moore added three hits and one RBI, Brennon Holleb finished with two hits and drove in a run and Eric Colgrove pitched a complete game to lead Los Altos, which improved to 12-8, 9-1.
The Eagles maintained a one-game lead over Los Gatos with four to go.
Wilcox is 13-9, 6-4.
Logan, playing on the road in Fremont, scored eight runs in the first and eight more in the second as it cruised past Mission San Jose to stay undefeated in Mission Valley Athletic League play.
Trevian Martinez drove in three runs and Jesus Vasquez, Evan Yau, Jordan Medina, Julian Vasquez, Yash Gupta and Westley Vega each had two RBIs for the Colts.
Logan is 16-3, 10-0. MSJ dropped to 0-19, 0-10.
Peyton Tsao hit two home runs and Kate Munnerlyn, Hayden Hummel and Rebecca Quinn each had one home run as St. Francis overpowered Presentation in a WCAL game.
The Lancers are 19-0, 5-0. Presentation fell to 5-12, 1-5.
Olivia Anderson had three hits, knocked in four runs and scored twice and Sara Pina had two hits and two RBIs to lead Mitty to a victory at home over Valley Christian in WCAL play.
Mitty is 15-3, 4-2. Valley Christian slipped to 13-9, 4-2.
Willow Glen put this one away with eight runs in the visitor’s half of the seventh as the Rams routed Santa Teresa in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division game.
Alanna Clincy had three hits, including a homer and a double, and four RBIs and Haley Ocumen also homered and doubled while driving in three runs to lead Willow Glen, which improved to 16-4, 9-2.
Santa Teresa is 12-11, 6-7.
Dani Wilson had two hits and drove in a run to help lead host Gilroy to a win over Branham in BVAL Mt. Hamilton play.
Gilroy is 17-5, 11-2. Branham dropped to 15-8, 8-4.
