DEUCE final summit sees UNIC present on EU cross-border enforcement in digital age

Over February 19-20, 2026, University of Nicosia (UNIC) research associate Eva Manolova participated as a guest speaker at the Final Conference of the DEUCE Project (Digitalising EU Cross-Border Enforcement for Consumers: Pathways to Effective Justice in the Digital Single Market). The event was held live in Brussels, as well as streamed online.

Manolova presented our paper entitled: “Bringing Brussels I bis Closer to the European Enforcement Order: Lessons Learned for the Future of Cross-Border Recognition and Enforcement of Civil and Commercial Judgments in the EU”, and thereafter engaged in discussions on digital and algorithmic enforcement, cross-border consumer protection and access to justice in the Digital Single Market.

The presentation also highlighted practical lessons for aligning national procedures with EU-level enforcement frameworks, demonstrating the potential of innovative approaches to enhance judicial cooperation and efficiency across Member States.

The conference brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners from across Europe to explore ways to strengthen consumer protection, improve EU cross-border enforcement instruments, and examine national procedural approaches to digital civil justice. Over two days, participants exchanged insights on transparency, accountability and the future of cross-border civil justice, emphasising the importance of digital tools in fostering access to justice.
