The finance ministry bid farewell to its permanent secretary George Panteli on Thursday, who is being transferred to the same post at the education ministry.
Panteli is being moved in the framework of a cabinet decision to reshuffle permanent secretaries. The transfer comes into effect on November 1.
In a post on X, the finance ministry said Panteli had been working at the ministry for 31 years, the last five from the post of permanent secretary, had a depth of knowledge regarding the economy and was respected in Cyprus and abroad.”
It added that in trying times for the economy and the country, Panteli played a decisive role in addressing the 2013 crisis and the pandemic, as well as the recovery and growth of the economy.
“He worked selflessly and with dedication, with the aim of ensuring a competitive and resilient economy, promoting sustainable development and ensuring macroeconomic and financial stability, while seeking to improve the standard of living of citizens,” the ministry said.
The staff and his colleagues thanked him for his service and “bid farewell to an excellent supervisor and colleague, who served with morals, integrity, hard work and dignity, always having the courage to voice his opinion to the benefit of public interest.”
