President Nikos Christodoulides attended an event in Chania, Crete, on Monday in honour of Mikis Theodorakis, saying his presence was a gesture of gratitude on behalf of the people of Cyprus for everything the Greek composter had done for the island.
Speaking to reporters on his arrival at the event, Christodoulides said it was a pleasure to accept the invitation to attend the event.
Christodoulides, who was invited to speak at the event, said it was “a great honour” to do so.
He added that Theodorakis was “very close to Cyprus, since 1964 when he first visited the island.”
