‘It may be my seventh medal but it feels like my first’
After winning silver at the Paralympic games in Paris, Cyprus swimmer Karolina Pelendritou on Sunday night said the victory felt like her first.
“It may be my seventh medal at the Paralympics, yet it feels like my first,” she wrote on social media. “That’s because every competition is special, with its own demands and rewards.”
She won silver for the 50m S11 freestyle swimming race after coming first in the heats. China’s Jia Ma took gold securing a new world record.
Pelendritou will be back in the pool on Thursday in the 100m SB11 breaststroke on September 5, in which she said she is “hoping for the best possible result.”
The Cyprus government was represented at the awards ceremony on Sunday evening at Paris’ La Defense Arena by Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Marilena Evangelou.
“This feeling cannot be described, Karolina Pelendritou continues to make history,” the Cyprus National Paralympic Committee said.
