The number of burglaries across Nicosia has decreased in the ‘worrisome’ month of August this year, according a report on Tuesday.
August is usually the month where the capital is all but empty, as residents go on holiday or choose to leave the city for a beach vacation elsewhere in the country.
As such, Nicosia is always troubled with burglaries in August but according to statistics revealed by Philenews, there has been a drop this year.
For the whole of 2022, there were 393 break-ins in the capital, which went up by 30 in 2023.
In the first seven-and-a-half months of this year, there were 150 break ins. Should it continue to average 20 a month, the year could end with 240 break ins, the report said.
Police confirmed the figures, specifying that in the first 20 days of August there were 13 break ins, most of which were in the outskirts of Nicosia.
