Lovers of jazz music rejoice, a beloved jazz festival is back. Happening towards the end of August, the 24th edition of Paradise Jazz Festival will bring together music fans, esteemed local musicians and guest artists from abroad at Val’s Place, in the beautiful village of Gialia.
The festival is an annual happening in the Paphos district, delighting culture enthusiasts of the region and gathering crowds at a stunning area of the island. This year, six shows and two jam sessions will be presented across the two days of the festival – August 23 and 24.
On Friday, August 23, the festival will kick off with organ player from Athens George Kontrafouris, and his Baby Trio. Afterwards Small Talented Hands-On Piano with Andrei Voronetskii and Dafni Koulas will perform.
The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the world-famous American keyboard player David Garfield. The versatile musician comes to Cyprus especially for the jazz festival and for a unique performance on the island, sharing the stage with some of Cyprus’ most esteemed jazz musicians.
On Saturday, the programme will have a dynamic start with the powerful line-up of the Working Quartet who will present the music of the legendary pianist Bud Powell. Immediately after, a short jazz break will follow as the classical music pianist Manolis Neophytou takes the stage to perform solo on piano Astor Piazzolla, Dmitrii Shostakovich, and more.
Saturday night’s highlight will be the The Boston Reunion, an unexpected meeting of old friends and musicians from Cyprus and America starring Amos Hoffman. In true Paradise Jazz fashion, the festival will close with a spontaneous jam session.
