During the second day of the first Test between Pakistan and England in Multan, Pakistan surprisingly adopted a defensve approach after batting with aggressive intent throughout the first day.
Saud Shakeel along with Naseem Shah who was sent as a night-watchman during the last session of the first day, formed a good 64-run stand before the latter eventually lost his wicket to debutant Brydon Carse on 33.
Mohammad Rizwan, who came out to bat next, wasn’t able to take advantage of the flat Multan track and was dismissed for a duck by spinner Jack Leach. Then it would be Salman Ali Agha’s turn to come out to bat as him along with Shakeel looked to get Pakistan over the 500-run mark.
While batting on 15, Agha would attempt to hit the ball over the boundary rope, however he wouldn’t make great contact with the ball and it looked as if England’s Chris Woakes would take the catch on the boundary rope.
However, Woakes didn’t judge the ball that well and thus he wasn’t able to stay inside the boundary rope while taking the catch. He tried to pull off a catch similar to that of India’s Suryakumar Yadav who took a blinder during the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
Even though Woakes’ brilliant effort looked like a clean catch to him and to his teammates, the replays showed that his foot had touched the floor when the ball was still in his hands. Thus, the third umpire would declare Agha to be safe and his shot was even given as a six.
There was clear disappointment on the face of Woakes after the third umpire made his decision as he believed that it was a fair catch. This denied England of getting the big wicket of Agha who can go on to hurt them for the remaining day or maybe even further.
