The Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, is getting ready for the ODI series in Colombo that begins on Friday after winning the T201 series 3-0 against Sri Lanka.
Following their announcement of a 20-over retirement following their first international trophy victory in over a decade, both Rohit and star batsman Virat Kohli missed the tourists’ 3-0 series sweep this week.
Both are returning to the road for the first time since the June Barbados final for the first of three ODIs in Colombo on Friday.
In a video released on their official X handle ahead of Friday’s first ODI, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) features Rohit Sharma reminiscing about winning the T20 World Cup and expressing his excitement for a partnership with new head coach Gautam Gambhir that will prioritize ‘Indian cricket as paramount’.
In the video, Rohit recalls India’s victory in the T20 World Cup and exclaims, “Wow!
It was quite the month. Memories abounding, indelible in history, a time that will never be forgotten. Mazaa hi aa gaya. In fact, it still feels as though I can put on my pads whenever I want to keep things short. (laughs) Nahi yaar chhodo bhai, I had my time, I had fun, and now it’s time to go on.”
The Indian captain is excited about the ODI series against Sri Lanka, “Time aa gaya hai for us to get back on the field, ek naye daur ke saath, ek nayi shuruyaat, ek naye coach ke saath. A partnership that is going to hold Indian cricket as paramount. It’s time to hit the reset button aur ab time aa gaya hai for us to get back on the field. Wahi energy, wahi jazoe ke saath, Team India utregi phir ek baar maidan par, kuch naye aur kuch jaane-pehchaane chehron ke saath. This is Team India and this is your captain Rohit Sharma speaking. Let’s go!”
Even though Sri Lanka will be desperate to win after suffering several setbacks and injuries that have kept six of their best fast bowlers out of action, they will be just as motivated as India to complete another clean sweep.
