Head coach of the Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid dismissed as fake news on Wednesday, January 6, the controversy surrounding the BCCI’s disciplinary actions against cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer for not being selected for Team India for the Afghanistan T20s.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference prior to the first Twenty20 international of the three-match series in Mohali, Punjab, Dravid stated that although Ishan had given no indication that he would be selected for personal reasons, Iyer did not meet the requirements of a Twenty20 middle-order batsman in the current Indian lineup.
During the press conference that aired live on Jiocinema, Dravid stated, “Media reports are not true – Ishan Kishan asked for the rest, he hasn’t made himself available and Shreyas Iyer missed out due to lots of batters in the mix – no disciplinary actions, these are fake.”
A number of Indian media sites had already reported that Ishan and Iyer will face disciplinary punishment from the BCCI. Ishan was suspended when it was revealed that he had been partying in Dubai while on vacation from the Indian squad before the two-match Test series against South Africa.
