West Indies legend Sir Everton Weekes suffered a massive heart attack in Barbados on Thursday and was rushed immediately to the intensive care unit. According to a report in BBC Sport, the 94-year-old, who registered 4,455 runs in 48 Tests at an average of 58.61, is being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown.
It is learnt that his condition is not serious and he could be discharged in the next couple of days.
Weekes made his Test debut against England in Bridgetown in 1947-48. He remains the only player to record centuries in five consecutive Test innings, a feat achieved in 1949.
Weekes was famously part of the ‘Three Ws’ of the West Indies, alongside team-mates Sir Frank Worrell and Sir Clyde Walcott. He decided to retire after struggling with injury against Pakistan in 1957-58. He was knighted in 1995.
