Newcastle United are reportedly ready to try again for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga in the January transfer window after missing out on a £50million deal late on in the summer.
Newcastle ended up having a relatively quiet summer in terms of new signings, but it seems there was strong interest in Elanga late on, and the Magpies will now likely revisit their pursuit of the former Manchester United wide-man when the window opens again in January, according to Football Insider.
The report states that Newcastle tried to sign Elanga for around £50m, but it makes sense that Forest have so far been keen to hold on to the Sweden international, who has been a key player for them, having improved since his difficult spell as a youngster at Man Utd.
It’s easy to see Elanga having a positive impact for a club like Newcastle as well, so his situation will be an interesting one to keep an eye on in the weeks and months ahead.
Newcastle already have an excellent winger in the form of Anthony Gordon, so it’s not entirely clear if they need another similar player in Elanga, but it would certainly make Eddie Howe’s side a really potent attacking force, with plenty of pace and quality out wide.
Football Insider claim NUFC have been tracking Elanga for a long time, and had a Deadline Day bid rejected for the 22-year-old, but it seems this story isn’t over just yet.
