Liverpool have started the season in fine form with three wins in three matches.
The Reds have still not conceded a goal this season and currently sit in second place in the Premier League, just behind Manchester City on goal difference.
Their transfer business this summer was underwhelming, with the club only signing two players in Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa.
However, it could have all been different if Liverpool had won in their attempt to sign a new striker in a late move.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool made an attempt to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
As per the report, the Merseyside club made a late effort to sign the Nigerian striker but their attempt ended quickly.
The Napoli striker has been linked with a move to Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.
Corriere dello Sport have previously mentioned Arsenal’s interest in the Serie A striker while BBC have reported of Chelsea’s interest in the prolific attacker.
It shows that the Reds were keen on signing a new striker as manager Arne Slot is not an admirer of current Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
The fact that Nunez has not even started a single game this season shows who Slot prefers in his attack.
With the transfer window closed now, Osimhen faces an uncertain future at Napoli, who have signed Romelu Lukaku this summer to lead their attack under manager Antonio Conte.
Osimhen at Anfield would have been a sight to behold, with Luis Diaz supporting him from one wing and Mohamed Salah from the other wing.
The way they have started the season, Slot and the Liverpool fans will be happy with the direction they are going in.
Diogo Jota has lead the attack well so far this season and with Diaz and Salah also contributing to goals, the Reds would be fine without Osimhen.
