Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has given his honest opinion on the signing of Federico Chiesa after the Italian winger arrived from Juventus.
With the summer transfer window now shut, Arne Slot will turn his full attention to the upcoming games with the Reds only completing the signing of two players.
Just like other Premier League clubs, Liverpool was conservative with their summer spending much to the disappointment of fans who would’ve hoped to see their side try to bring in players who could help get them back up alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.
But despite not breaking the bank, the Reds did bring in a potentially stellar signing in Italian winger Chiesa, who arrived at Anfield for a reported fee of £13 million.
The 26-year-old was one of the most sought-after wide players in the world after his performance during Italy’s Euro-winning campaign but after suffering a horrific injury, he has struggled to hit those heights again.
Speaking to The Independent ahead of Liverpool’s showdown with Manchester United this weekend, Van Dijk praised the deal for the speedy winger.
“I think in terms of the season being so long with so many games we definitely could use any quality addition that will be needed and to have Chiesa coming in is a very good signing, especially for the deal that has been done,” he told The Independent.
Slot got his Liverpool career off to a perfect start against the newly promoted Ipswich Town on the opening day winning 2-0 before a victory by the same scoreline in their clash against Brentford the following week.
