It's an Iowa reunion tonight at the Fever vs. Aces game, which will see rookies and former college teammates Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin face off for the second time in their WNBA careers. No. 1 overall 2024 draft pick Clark had a rough start to the season on the Indiana Fever, but the team has picked up substantially over the past month, thanks in no small part to a less cramped schedule that has allowed them time to practice. They have an 8-12 record, making them 8th in the league and currently eligible for the Playoffs (although that could always change since the Chicago Sky is close behind). Much of the success has been attributed to Clark and Aliyah Boston's chemistry and teamwork, as well as standout performances from Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith.
Martin, Clark's Iowa teammate, was the 18th overall draft pick this year and one of the only players drafted in the second round to secure a spot on a roster after training camp. She has gradually become a rookie to watch and even got the chance to start in a game last month for the Las Vegas Aces, who currently have a 10-6 record. A'ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum lead the team, fresh off their WNBA Championship win last season, and both are heading to the Olympics later this month.
