Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra have shared the screen in several films, with fans admiring their chemistry in movies like Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011). Their on-screen partnership has always been a fan favourite, and many hoped to see them collaborate again. In fact, after the success of Don, the duo was set to work together on another project in 2007. However, the project was never completed, and the reason for this has only recently come to light.
Photographer and filmmaker Vishal Punjabi, also known as "The Wedding Filmer," shared in a recent interview that he was supposed to direct a film starring Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan in 2007. He revealed that the movie was a major project that he had co-written with his friend, director Zoya Akhtar. Vishal explained that it was a significant moment for both him and Zoya, especially since she was just starting her career as a filmmaker at that time.
Unfortunately, the project never took off due to an unexpected obstacle. Vishal Punjabi told Brown Game Strong YouTube Channel, "Me and Reema and Zoya were kicked about it. And then I got deported from India because I didn't have an OCI. I had a tourist visa, and I was technically not allowed to work on a tourist visa. It was very stupid of me, because I thought it's India; they'd fix it."
Further in this entertainment news, despite this setback, Vishal mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan tried to help him return to India and continue with the project. Vishal also shared that the Swades actor faced government scrutiny at the time, and his religious beliefs may have been a factor in how he was treated by past administrations. Nonetheless, SRK made efforts to get Vishal back to complete the film, although it ultimately wasn't successful.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan will be next seen in Sujoy Ghosh's King. The film also stars Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek will reportedly play a villain in the thriller film. On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra is busy with her Hollywood projects. She will be next seen in the movie The Bluff. The actress also has the Prime Video series Citadel Season 2 in her kitty, which also stars Richard Madden.
