Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film, Ramayana, one of the biggest Hindi movies based on the Hindu mythological saga, will feature Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. Actress Sai Pallavi will portray Goddess Sita in the film. Although the makers have not officially announced the movie, it is known that the project is happening, and the actors are already working on it.
When initial entertainment news reports suggested that Ranbir Kapoor would play Lord Rama, reactions were mixed. Many people wondered if the Animal star could do justice to such an iconic role. However, casting director Mukesh Chhabra shared his thoughts on why Ranbir is the right choice for the character. He mentioned that Nitesh Tiwari, the film's director, decided to cast Ranbir early in the process and believes that once people see the film, they will understand why he's perfect. Mukesh also praised Ranbir's acting skills and said that he is very focused on his craft and doesn't worry much about the success or failure of his films. The Dil Bechara director also said that there's a certain calmness on Kapoor's face, which was required for the movie.
As for the role of Lakshman, Lord Rama's brother, there has been no update. In the same interview, Mukesh disclosed the selection of a newcomer for the part, following thorough consideration. Mukesh shared that many actors auditioned to play Lakshman, but they eventually chose a young actor who has worked in television earlier. Mukesh is delighted with the choice of actor he has cast to play Rama's brother, stating that they couldn't have found a better Lakshman. The casting director revealed that some actors they initially approached turned down the role, as they believed that Ram and Lakshman would always have to be together on screen.
Meanwhile, pictures of Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi filming in Mumbai surfaced a few months ago. However, the makers still didn't make any official announcements. Reports surfaced after the pictures leaked, detailing the Dangal director's strict no-phone policy on the sets. Further, there is speculation that Sunny Deol, Lara Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor are also part of the mythological saga.
