MLB news roundup
Good morning A’s fans! Happy Tuesday!
Yesterday we got news that an old friend had found a new home. Former starting third baseman Vimael Machin has signed on with the Baltimore Orioles on a minor league pact, joining forces with a young and upcoming team that seems poised for long-term success.
As you may recall the A’s originally grabbed Machin during the Rule 5 Draft back in 2019. During his rookie year he only made it into 24 games and hit only .206/.296/.238 with no home runs. The club held onto him with the hope of finding a diamond in the rough, giving him extended playing time in 2022 after seeing him demolish Triple-A pitching. That success just never quite translated to the big leagues as Machin hit .220/.300/.287 with one lone home run during his time as a starter. The club DFA’d him after the year and Machin elected free agency.
Since then Machin played in the Philadelphia Phillies system but was released after a short stint. The 31-year-old soon found himself playing in Mexico where he rediscovered some magic in his bay, crushing the ball for the past two years down south. That clearly earned him another chance with a major league team and he’ll now have a chance to latch on as a bench piece for a playoff contender. Things change in the blink of an eye in this sport.
Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!
