The Fall Classic resumes at Yankee Stadium
The 2024 World Series shifts to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx for game three tonight. After a Sunday travel day and a cross-country trek for both teams, the series resumes at 5:08 PM PDT (8:08 PM EDT). After two exciting games in Los Angeles the Dodgers hope to maintain the momentum while the Yankees hope that being back at home will wake up their slumping bats.
Taking the mound for the Yankees, in what amounts to be a must-win game for them, is 28-year-old righty Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt has made two post season starts in 2024 and enters the game with a 0-0 record and 3.86 ERA in 9.1 innings. He made sixteen starts in the regular season, shortened by a right Lat strain, and went 5-5 with a 2.85 ERA in 85.1 innings. He’ll face a potent lineup that includes Shohei Ohtani back in the leadoff spot despite a shoulder subluxation injury sliding into second base late in the game Saturday night.
Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts is sending 30-year-old righty Walker Buehler to the mound against the dangerous but relatively quite bats of the homestanding Yankees. Buehler is making his third start of the 2024 post season, mounting an 0-1 record with a 6.00 ERA in nine innings of work. He started his regular season in May and only lasted 6 weeks before heading back to the Injured List (IL) until mid-August. During his active role he logged 75.1 innings and had a 1-6 record with a 5.38 ERA.
The Dodgers are swapping Teoscar Hernández and Freddy Freeman in the lineup for tonight and reinserting Tommy Edman at shortstop instead of Game 2’s Miguel Rojas and Kike Hernández moves to center with Gavin Lux back at second base. Here’s the full lineup:
The Yankees are only making one switch in their lineup tonight, sending Jose Trevino to serve as the backstop instead of Austin Wells. Here’s the full lineup:
