Chris Martin suffered a scary moment during a Coldplay concert in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday. The 47-year-old took a tumble right through a trapdoor in the stage, but thankfully he appeared uninjured and even joked about the incident immediately afterwards.
In the moments before he fell, Martin could be seen on video doing crowd work, asking the 50,000 concertgoers gathered at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium where they were from. After eliciting cheers from those visiting from India, Martin was seen walking backwards, apparently unaware of the open trap door directly behind him.
Suddenly he plummeted through the hole in the stage, causing the crowd to loudly gasp. As he picked himself up and walked back onstage, Martin said into his mic: "That’s, uh, not planned, thank you for catching me," referring to the staffer who quickly came to his aid.
"Thank you, guys, holy s--t," he continued, adding, "probably be a YouTube moment."

Martin is currently in the midst of his Music of the Spheres international world tour with Coldplay, which has been going since March 2022 and is scheduled to run through September 2025. Next, he heads to Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand to close out the year before resuming in January.
Coincidentally enough, Martin's tumble comes just weeks after the same thing happened to Olivia Rodrigo while performing in Melbourne, albeit at a different venue. The 21-year-old was performing the final night of the Melbourne stop of her Guts tour at Rod Laver Arena when she also fell through a hole in the stage while running sideways and pointing at fans.

Thankfully Rodrigo was likewise uninjured, but artists apparently need to start paying better attention to their surroundings or start performing covered in bubble wrap.
