Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen broke the internet in 2019 when it rolled out its chicken sandwich, which quickly became a menu staple. Now, those who needed an extra kick with the chicken sandwich are getting a new, spicier version of the popular item.
The company just unveiled its all new Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich just in time for the spooky Halloween season. While the company already offers a standard Spicy Chicken Sandwich, the Ghost Pepper iteration kicks things up a notch. To turn up the heat from standard spicy fare, the sandwich features Popeyes' chili-infused Ghost Pepper sauce on top of a delicious crispy chicken fillet.
"When we were thinking of what flavor would be perfect for our next Chicken Sandwich, the answer was right in front of us," Popeyes culinary innovation vice president Amy Alarcon said in a statement. "When we launched our wings platform, we used our Ghost Pepper flavor as the base for all of our wings. Marinated in a dry spice blend before they’re hand breaded and fried to a perfect crunch, our wings are the perfect balance of flavor and fire. We knew this flavor profile was already a fan favorite and crowd pleaser, so why not take it and turn it into a sandwich?"

Ghost peppers aren't exactly for the faint of heart. For a few years, the chili held the record for the hottest pepper on earth. So if you aren't sure if you can handle it, stick with the original, golden BBQ, or regular spicy chicken sandwich instead.
