It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney confirmed a highly speculated crossover episode with another popular Philly-centric comedy, ABC's Abbott Elementary on Thursday.
McElhenney and Abbott creator Quinta Brunson have been teasing a crossover episode for months now, causing quite the buzz among fans. Both shows now fall under the Disney umbrella, which owns FX and ABC, ostensibly clearing any red tape for the collaboration to come to fruition.
"Oh. Hello," McElhenney captioned a photo posted to social media on Thursday, featuring himself, Brunson, and his co-star Charlie Day posed in front of the fictional elementary school's instantly recognizable exterior.
In a second photo McElhenney shared, the trio were joined by Abbott Elementary stars Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis, along with Danny DeVito.

The rumors started earlier this year when McElhenney responded to fans over the viral Willy Wonka experience in Scotland, after many reached out to suggest it would make the perfect shenanigan for The Gang to get themselves into.
"A lot of you are saying this feels like an episode of Sunny, but to me it feels more like an Always Sunny-Abbott Elementary crossover episode," the 47-year-old posted back in February.

"DO IT DO IT DO IT DO WHATEVER YOU WANT," one fan all-caps posted in response to the suggestion.
Then, during an appearance at Comic-Con in July, Brunson added fuel to the fire when she teased that they would be doing a crossover episode in the fourth season of Abbott. Though, she didn't specify at the time what show they would be collaborating with or offer any further details.
"We will be doing an interesting crossover this season," the 34-year-old Philly native said at the time, per The Hollywood Reporter. "I’m not going to tell you with who or with what or where or when or how. But it’s really exciting, and I think it’ll change television as we know it.”
Could its be possible that The Gang tries their hand at their own failed viral experience, and Brunson's Janine Teagues and her fellow teachers unknowingly bring their classes there for a field trip?
We'll find out soon enough. Season four of Abbott Elementary premieres on Oct. 9, while Day posted earlier this week that the long-running It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was gearing up for its record-breaking 17th season.
