The family of Tupac Shakur are reportedly considering a wrongful death lawsuit against Sean 'Diddy' Combs, over resurfaced court documents that allege the music mogul put a $1 million bounty on his rival's head before he was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996. These claims have notably not yet been substantiated.
Former gang leader Duane "Keefe D" Davis, who was arrested last year in connection with the previously unsolved murder, made the alleged admission in a 2009 interview with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, according to Fox 5 News, which obtained the nearly 180-page documents. In the interview, Davis, now 61, claimed that Combs, 54, had paid for the shooting.
“[Davis] has asserted publicly that he only told on himself and wasn’t trying to provide evidence against anyone else in his conversations with police," prosecutors said in a footnote of the documents. "However, this statement belies this claim, as he suggested that Sean Combs paid Eric Von Martin a million dollars for the killings as well as offered to set up a surreptitious phone call with Terrence Brown, the driver, who, at the time, was still alive."
Davis had also allegedly described the killing in detail in a passage from his 2019 memoir that resurfaced after the 2023 arrest.
Page Six now exclusively reports that the family of the rapper is now considering legal action in light of the new evidence. "People from Diddy’s past are coming forward and providing info," a source said on Wednesday, though representatives for Shakur's estate did not return a request for comment.
The outlet also reports that the family of Shakur, who was just 25 at the time of his death, has hired high-powered attorneys to investigate. Among them are celebrity lawyer Alex Spiro, who has previously represented high-profile clients including Elon Musk and Megan Thee Stallion.
Meanwhile, Diddy is also facing a flurry of sexual misconduct and assault lawsuits, which were triggered last November when his former girlfriend of nearly a decade, singer Cassie Ventura, accused him of years of abuse.
"After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships," Ventura said in a statement at the time.
Diddy has yet to publicly comment on the latest development.
