Opinionated Costco customers took to Reddit over the weekend to have a lively debate over “the worst Kirkland product.” While Costco’s in-house label is known as one of the more reliable generic brands, especially when it comes to alcohol, not all Kirkland Signature products have curried favor with the box store’s members. But unsurprisingly, few can agree on which product is truly the worst.
“Kirkland Light Beer was by far the worst Kirkland thing I ever bought. Couldn’t even give it away,” user meowypancakes claimed. User epicurusepicurus agreed: “It's quite baffling. I would think it's one product Costco can capitalize on selling billions of yet I've never met a single person that would drink it a second time.”
“Kirkland dish soap is horrible [and] doesn’t clean anything,” fake_somebody contested. Their dish soap is awful,” ComfortableFriend879 agreed. “Gave me eczema on my hands for years before I connected the dots that it was the culprit.”
Others came down on Kirkland’s food choices, decreeing some items—such as the brand’s chicken pot pie and tri-tip—as far too salty.
“The [Kirkland Signature] boxed mac and cheese was so bad that I returned it,” goforwardandtomato said. “The cashier commented that everyone thought it was horrible. Now they have Annie’s and Kraft.”
However, the most divisive topic turned out to be Kirkland-branded toilet paper. “I was always curious to try Kirkland TP,” original poster PreparationBIg7675 said. “Long story short, after getting to the final roll, everyone in the house demanded we go back to our regular brand TP!
“You need a gas mask for the amount of dust that comes off that toilet paper,” DomStruck1122 agreed.
“Without typing a novel, Kirkland TP led to thousands in plumbing repairs as we couldn't figure out that it was the culprit in clogging,” blacksoxing claimed. “I swear to everyone that it changed its formula [during] the pandemic.”
“The toilet paper seems very regional,” user apoxual wrote. “On the east coast (NC) our Kirkland TP is great, but I noticed in UT recently that the Kirkland TP is total trash and might as well be one-ply sandpaper.”
“It seems the same as Cottonelle in WI,” WiWook said. “Haven't noticed lint, dust, or separation. An occasional missed perforation or individual plies that have doubled bits is the worst I've run into.”
“I loved it from 2009-2020. Then the paper dust storms began,” WendyBird13 noted.
“Exactly, the crazy TP dust starting in 2020 made me give up on it,” PlausibleArtifice agreed.
“So much dust!” LogLady53 concurred. “And I’ve been getting weird shredded triangle pieces in the middle of the rolls pretty frequently. I mean, it still works, but beaucoup dust makes me want to shower every time I use the loo.”
“As someone that survived the dust storm, tried Charmin or whatever other brand for a bit, and came back to Kirkland (just picked up one today) now that they have a better product,” NPCArizona assured fellow TP fans.
As with many of Costco’s best deals, Kirkland products seem to vary extensively based on region. You can head over to Reddit to share your opinion on Kirkland toilet paper and other Costco-brand products.
