Pashinyan recently stated Armenia might seek formal exit from CSTO

YEREVAN, June 21. /ARKA/. The issue of Armenia leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a Russian-led military bloc, was not discussed at the recent Council of CSTO Foreign Ministers, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

“No, we did not discuss this as there was no respective request from Armenia,” he said.

“We wouldn’t want to take any guesses. Yes, the Foreign Minister of Armenia was not present at the Council, but there was no official motion from Armenia [to leave the bloc],” Lavrov stressed.

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently stated that Armenia might seek formal exit from the CSTO. Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, later said he hopes Russia and Armenia will remain allies and partners.
