Lawyer: Court hearing for head of Shirak Diocese postponed due to public prosecutor`s absence
ArmInfo. The court hearing for Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), was postponed until January 13 due to the public prosecutor's absence. Lawyer Yerem Sargsyan shared this information in a conversation with reporters outside the courthouse.
The lawyer also mentioned that the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office had previously petitioned to revise the archbishop's pretrial detention from two years to two years and six months. According to Sargsyan, the prosecution believed that two years' sentence would be insufficient for the archbishop. "The appellate court judge had no legal option but to acquit Ajapahyan. This is simply absurd; the legal system is failing today," the lawyer noted.
He also reported that, according to preliminary information, Ajapahyan will be transferred to Izmirlyan Medical Center tomorrow for surgery.
