Kylo Ren could have had a droid in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' — here's how it looked
BB-8 wasn't the only droid the "Star Wars" crew dreamed up while working on the new film.
According to concept art book "The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Kylo Ren, one of the film's new antagonists, could have had a droid, too.

The droid, referred to as Droid H016 in the text, was part of some early concept art for the film back in September 2013. It looks like the droid may have flown around as opposed to rolling like BB-8.
Back in 2013, Kylo Ren didn't even have a real look yet. He was simply referred to as the "Jedi Killer."
"At one point, we were thinking maybe the Jedi Killer had his own droid, whether it's a torure droid or we weren't sure what," said senior sculptor Luke Fisher. "You can't really see anything obvious that it can do other than observe you. But it's quite an ominous-looking thing."
Costume concept artist Glyn Dillon came up with a lot of looks for the "Jedi Killer"/Kylo Ren, including one that ended up lending itself to the Guavian Death gang seen in the final film.

The character had a samurai look, one of the early inspirations for Darth Vader. The finished design for Kylo was approved March 11, 2014. By this time, the idea of any droid was long gone.
