A letter from a frustrated father resulted in Macy's making a major change to stores

After finding himself stuck at a Macy's with a fussy baby and no changing tables in sight, Anthony Dew decided to take action. 

The father and his 4-month-old son, Jeremiah, were shopping at a Macy's in Prince George’s County, Maryland in early December when Dew realized Jeremiah needed his diaper changed, reports Fox 5. However, none of the men's restrooms in the store had changing tables. 

Frustrated, Dew alerted management and left the store without completing any of his holiday shopping. Once home, he wrote a letter to Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren, addressing the necessity of changing tables in men's restrooms. 

Taking the issue to the top of the company worked for Dew. The manager of the location was quickly contacted by his superiors. He put together a team to address the problem, and, within the week, renovations were underway. 

Now, fathers have access to a changing station in this Prince George's County Macy's — as well as a newly renovated men's room. The company also gave Dew a gift card to apologize for his experience. 

Actor and entrepreneur Ashton Kutcher started a Change.org petition asking for Target and Costco to install changing tables in restrooms.

Dew was so impressed by the speedy improvements, he reached out to Fox 5 to share his story. 

The issue of changing tables in men's bathrooms is one that has received some significant press in recent years. California passed a pair of laws in 2014 to require that changing stations be accessible to men and women. In 2015, similar legislature was proposed in New York.
