Missing businessman found dead
A Tongaat businessman, reported missing by his family, was found stabbed and strangled at a primary school.
|||Durban - A Tongaat businessman was found stabbed and strangled at a primary school in the area on Wednesday.
Ronnie Moonsamy, 65, was found after his family reported him missing on Tuesday night when he failed to return home and his cellphone had been switched off.
Security company Reaction Unit South Africa said in a Facebook post that according to Moonsamy’s family, he had left home on Tuesday afternoon to pay casual workers he had employed to cut grass at the Belfrost School.
Moonsamy’s church holds gatherings at the school.
Reaction Unit’s Prem Balram said he had received a call from one of Moonsamy’s relatives, living in Australia, who asked him to assist with the search.
“Reaction officers and Moonsamy’s relatives launched a search and looked throughout the night.”
He said the businessman’s relative found his body at the school in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said Moonsamy had been found with three stab wounds to his neck.
His silver Opel Corsa bakkie, which was believed to have been stolen, had also been recovered in the Tongaat area.
Zwane said a case of murder and theft had been opened by police.
“The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.” Zwane said.
He could not say whether Moonsamy’s cellphone had been recovered.
On Tuesday, one of Moonsamy’s daughters, Jennifer Moonsamy Steele, who lives overseas, posted the missing person report.
She added the message: “My dad is missing, please pray.”
Dozens of friends and relatives have also expressed their condolences to the family on Facebook.
In one post, Pregasen Perumall posted: “A friend, a father, a businessman, the most humble man I have met, thank you for the years of strength and encouragement you’ve given me.”
