27 dead, 63 injured in Christmas Day shootings

Respect the culture, and so forth.

27 people were killed and 63 injured in shooting incidents on Christmas Day this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. This tally does not include people who shot themselves in suicide.

The number of Americans killed in gun homicides on Christmas Day is comparable to the number of people killed in gun homicides in an entire year in places like Australia or Britain.

This includes two separate Christmas Day mass shootings, in Alabama and Florida, which you probably didn't hear about because mass shootings are now so commonplace as to not rate news coverage unless they are especially heinous.

Doesn't it seem like this is something we might want to be doing something about? Other nations have shootings too, but if we top their annual number in a single slow holiday it does seem like perhaps they're doing something that's working a bit better than our version.

Meanwhile police are gunning down children with toy guns while grown men with rifles parade through Chipotle. This is pathology. It's insane by definition.
