Serial offender nabbed for DUI
An alleged drunk driver reportedly knocked down a pedestrian, "moved the victim from the road and then proceeded with his journey.
|||Cape Town - An alleged drunk driver will be spending New Year’s Eve behind bars after police arrested him on Christmas.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said in a statement on Wednesday that the 42-year-old man was driving in Nomzamo near Somerset West when he allegedly knocked down a pedestrian.
According to eyewitness reports, “he moved the victim from the road and then proceeded with his journey”.
Van Wyk said community members apprehended the driver and contacted police.
“During investigation detectives identified the driver as one of the suspects wanted for bribery that occurred in Lwandle on the December 30, 2014. They further discovered that he is also wanted in Khayelitsha, Somerset West, Lingelethu West, Harare and Strand for drunken driving incidents.
“The suspect had been arrested nine times as from March 2011 until 2015 for drunken driving, theft and bribery. He was found guilty of theft in 2012 and drunken driving in 2013,” Van Wyk said.
The suspect will be charged with drunk driving and reckless and negligent driving. He appeared in court on Monday, and will remain behind bars until his bail application at the Strand Magistrate’s Court on January 4.
