Philadelphia Eagles fire coach Chip Kelly
Chip Kelly is out as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Tuesday.
In a letter posted to the Eagles' website, chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie wrote: "I spent the last three seasons evaluating the many factors involved in our performance as a team. As I watched the season unfold, I determined that it was time to make a change." This was the Eagles' second losing season since 2005, with a record of 6-9.
Players were not notified of the change in personnel, sports reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks said on Twitter, noting that he broke the news to several players when calling for comment. One player responded with, "Damn. For real?" Another said he had no idea Kelly had been let go, and was "pissed."
