For the first time in history, India's richest couple, Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, have found their name in The TIME 100 Philanthropy.
Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries featured along with his wife and Reliance Foundation chairperson, Nita Ambani in the TIME 100 Philanthropy list. According to the reports from the magazine the two donated money and goods worth around Rs 407 crore in 2024 alone which makes them amongst the highest donors in India.
Nita Ambani - who has been leading the Reliance Foundation - has developed numerous programs and initiatives to nurture and develop athletes by providing them world-class facilities and coaching based on the latest innovation in sports science, with a particular focus on female athletes. Reports from the magazine state that the Billionaire couple have funded initiatives which have affected the lives of millions of Indians by providing funding for scholarships, helped women strengthen their career skills, and assisted rural communities with sustainable agriculture initiatives.
The annually released list is a prestigious one as it contains names like David Beckham, who is honoured for his advocacy as a champion of change, Oprah Winfrey, who is recognised for her work in female education, and Melinda French Gates, who still continues to focus on women, girls, and families.
However even after donating so much the Billionaire couple couldn't make it to the top of the list. Michael Bloomberg co-founder, CEO, and majority owner of Bloomberg LP is named as 2024's biggest donor by the magazine as he donated $3.7 billion from his estimated fortune of over $100 billion in the last one year alone, out of which he donated $1 billion to his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University.
The Indian Billionaire Mukesh Ambani is the richest man in Asia and holds a total net worth of $107.5 billion, as of May 20, as per Forbes, with Reliance Industries being his most valuable asset valued at a whopping Rs 19.28 lakh crore, as of May 20.
