Several popular names from the showbiz industry have been victims of robberies. While some have experienced shocking robberies after thieves broke into their hotel rooms, others have been targeted by burglars who stole their cash and jewellery from their homes while they were away.
Like any high-profile celebrity, veteran Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan too has experienced several triumphs and challenges in both personal and professional life. But there was one harrowing experience that left him completely helpless.
In a 2001 interview with Filmfare, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that a group of six men had stolen his passport and money in Boston. While chatting about the unsettling encounter, Bachchan recalled that the men first splashed paint on his jacket and pretended to help him clean it. However, they snatched his briefcase, which had crucial items including a passport, cash, and letters from parents. "Some five-six years ago, I was mugged in the lobby of a hotel in Boston. A gang of six guys splashed paint on the back of my jacket, pretended to clean it and snatched my briefcase, which had everything my passport, money, letters from my parents, postcards from my kids. I felt helpless, utterly helpless in the middle of nowhere," he said.
At the time of the robbery, Amitabh Bachchan was already one of the biggest stars in India. According to reports, Bachchan's son Abhishek Bachchan had enrolled in Boston University to study Business Management. The robbery had happened during one of his visits to meet Abhishek.
Bachchan is currently seen on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
