The X-Files 2016: Air date for Mulder and Scully’s return confirmed for the UK on Channel 5
While the announcement of Mulder and Scully’s return in a reboot of The X-Files caused considerable excitement among the show’s fans, it immediately raised a question for UK viewers: who would air it in Britain?
With the six-part revival premiering in America on January 24, the ‘event series’ has now been confirmed to arrive on Channel 5 in early 2016.
Ben Frow, director of programmes at Channel 5, said: “Securing the UK premiere of the hugely anticipated return of The X-Files is a major coup for the channel and will create one of the television events of 2016.
“This acquisition underlines our ambition to deliver a diverse slate of brilliant, must-see programming on Channel 5.”
The show originally aired for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002, and was followed up in 2008 film The X-Files: I Want To Believe.
The new series sees David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return to their iconic roles as the FBI special agents who uncovered an alien conspiracy back in the Nineties.
However, in November an interview with Anderson revealed that there’s “no aliens this year”.
As for what will be seen in the revived series, the truth it out there. On Channel 5, to be exact.
