Ranbir Kapoor's Animal is one of the biggest hits of 2023. The action thriller has received polarising reviews from the critics and the audience. Directed by Sandeep Vanda Reddy, the film also stars Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri. Kapoor's film is also one of the most discussed movies in recent times, more than Vanga's Kabir Singh. A lot of celebrities are also not fans of the film, including Javed Akhtar.
Lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar has often shared his dislikeness towards Ranbir Kapoor's Animal. Recently, he again expressed his displeasure towards the movie and compared the makers to "perverts." Akhtar said that societies don't move in linear manner and different things keep happening together. Like several subplots in stories, there is also a main theme, which one has to look at. Some subplots are good and some aren't. Javed stated how society doesn't change together completely, and some of them take slow steps while others are fast. In such a world, movies like Animal also exist.
Further in this entertainment news, the lyricist said how the title is self-explanatory and he didn't express his opinion towards the movie but spoke about the people who watched it. "If 15 people have made a film with the wrong values, if 10-12 people make obscene songs, that's not the problem. If 15 people are perverts among the 140 crore population, it doesn't matter. When that thing goes on the market and becomes a superhit, that's the problem," he said.
Javed Akhtar said how vulgar songs were made even in the 1920s and 30s, but people didn't accept them. Vulgarity wasn't invested in the past ten years and has existed forever. He said how people, especially the middle class, didn't have such a place for vulgarity, like in today's time.
Earlier, Sandeep Reddy Vanga had hit back at Javed for his views on Animal. Even Ranbir Kapoor has received a lot of flak for saying yes to the movie. Meanwhile, the movie ends with a cliffhanger and the makers announced a sequel to the same title, Animal Park.
