MG Motor India, in collaboration with JSW, marked a significant milestone with the delivery of 100 units of the MG Windsor EV, India’s first intelligent CUV, in Hyderabad. The event, organized by RAAM MG, highlights the growing enthusiasm for electric vehicles (EVs) in the region and the increasing demand for this CUV, which has quickly gained traction nationwide.
The Telangana government’s pro-EV policies have played a critical role in boosting electric vehicle sales. Under the Telangana Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage Policy 2020-2030, buyers of EVs are eligible for a 100% road tax exemption until December 31, 2026. This policy applies to two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and commercial electric vehicles purchased and registered in the state, making EV ownership more affordable and appealing.
Amith Nalla Reddy, Dealer Principal at RAAM MG, emphasized the impact of this initiative, stating, “The government’s support for EV adoption through tax exemptions is a progressive step toward accelerating the transition to greener mobility solutions.”
The MG Windsor has demonstrated remarkable success in its early months on the market. With 3,116 units sold in October 2024, it accounted for nearly 30% of total passenger EV sales in India for the month. This follows its record-setting achievement of securing 15,176 bookings within 24 hours of opening its pre-orders.
The Windsor is positioned as a blend of SUV practicality and sedan comfort, built on a dedicated Pure EV Platform. Key highlights include:
The MG Windsor’s launch and robust sales indicate a growing consumer shift towards electric mobility. Supported by state initiatives like Telangana’s tax exemption and advancements in EV technology, the segment is poised for further growth. As demand increases, more models with competitive features and pricing are likely to enter the market, shaping the future of sustainable transportation in India.
