Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein Season 2 Review
Streaming on: Netflix
Release Date: November 22, 2024
Director: Siddharth Sengupta
Cast: Tahir Raj Bhasin, Shweta Tripathi, Anchal Singgh, Saurabh Shukla, Arunoday Singh, Gurmeet Choudhary
Episodes: 6
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
The story picks up where season 1 ended. Jalan (Arunoday Singh) continues to kidnap Purva (Anchal Singgh), but he has not betrayed Vikrant, aka Vicky (Tahir Raj Bhasin). Vicky is doing his best to ensure Jalan doesn't spill out the truth about Purva's kidnapping while also trying to convince Akheraj (Saurabh Shukla) to give the ransom money. There is constant chaos as new drama unfolds, and despite Vicky's best efforts, he is unable to grasp the situation. With Guru's (Gurmeet Choudhary) arrival, things only get more complicated for our hero.
The reason Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein Season 1 received such immense love was it didn't try to preach about what's right and what's wrong. It's a world where characters don't care about being good or bad; they just want the things or people they're fond of. In this story, Purva's obsession with Vicky ruins his dream of a perfect life. After their marriage, he devises many plans to get rid of Purva and live the life he wanted with the woman he loves, but fate and these powerful people always have more dominance. In season 2, love takes a backseat as he functions in survival mode, and I have to break it to you; his survival skills aren't very good.
In season 2, Siddharth Sengupta delves deeper into Purva's past, revealing a more human side. As a viewer, it's not more than a dilemma because her obsession did trap Vikrant, but from then on, it was just him trying to cause her harm.
Similarly, Jalan's motivation for the entire kidnapping takes an emotional turn. Every good character on the show, including Vicky's sister and father, walks on morally grey ground. Shikha's fate also shifts, immersing the viewer in a world where individuals discover themselves amidst the dark realm they never aimed to be a part of.
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein stays true to its theme of obsession. As mentioned earlier, love takes a backseat. But here, the obsession turns into chaotic madness and desperation that drives Vikrant to new levels of insanity. You don't see him as a victim anymore, and that says a lot about the way his character arc has changed since Season 1. There's a thrill in watching him mess up everything while in a constant state of worry and anxiety. Amidst all this, there's Purva, who doesn't speak or emote much but can terrify you with just a big smile.
In terms of performances, Tahir Raj Bhasin consistently excels, having significantly transformed his role as Vicky from season 1 to the current one. In situations where Vicky may appear unhinged, he remains hesitant, and Tahir aptly navigates his character's dilemma. The way his eyes move quickly, expressing fear and tension, aptly conveys the distress Vicky is going through. Anchal Singgh, as Purva, treats us to an exceptional act and runs the show with one big smile that can intensify the tension in the room. What I love about the way Purva is written is how she never surrenders to the tragic situations because she is always aware of the power she holds.
Shweta Tripathi as Shikha and Arunoday Singh as Jalan bring more complexities to the plot and play their parts well. Gurmeet Choudhary enters the story to make things more challenging for Vicky. So far, we have seen him mostly do action sequences. However, it's clear that his love for Purva will act as a strong barrier, preventing Vicky from easily achieving his bloody desires.
Regarding the flaws of Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, there isn't much to highlight. Gurmeet's character could've had some more to provide. I also wish it wasn't just six episodes this season.
Overall, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein Season 2 intensifies the tension with its intricate ways of obsessions and bloody chaos, delving into madness and questionable decisions. Characters drive the story, and witnessing their plight is an intriguing and enjoyable experience. The dialogues are hilarious, performances are top-notch, and the tragedy is funnier than all of Golden's jokes this season.
Our verdict: Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
