ArmInfo. Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg has refused to go to the upcoming UN Climate Summit (COP29) in Baku, scheduled for November 11 to 22, 2024. Thunberg made this announcement during an opposition protest in Tbilisi, where she had arrived the day before.
As reported by the media, the environmental activist condemned the very fact of choosing the capital of Azerbaijan as the venue for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and called this decision of the World Organization hypocritical. She also pointed out that Azerbaijan, selected to host COP29, had committed ethnic cleansing in Artsakh just a year prior. She believes that allowing another authoritarian, oil-rich state to host the COP is cynical on the part of UNFCCC.
