PHOTO: Burglar Jumps In Lake Hiding From Police, Gets Eaten By Crocodile
A burglary suspect has been attacked and killed by a сrocodile, while hiding from police in a pond in Palm Bay, Florida, USA.
Police were chasing Matthew Riggins, 22, and his accomplice with dogs and a helicopter after the locals reported them acting suspiciously behind their homes. Hiding from the persecutors Riggins jumped into a pond, where he was drowned and killed by the reptile.
Riggins’ body parts were found only 10 days after the chase inside an eight meter alligator’s stomach
Major Tod Goodyear of Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said: “He probably went into the lake to hide from the officers and the dog, and came across that gator. To hide somewhere to try and get away, and then meeting up with an animal like that, no, I’ve never had that happen before.”

Riggins’ body parts were found only 10 days after the chase inside an eight meter alligator’s stomach. The aggressive animal was later euthanized. Shortly after the incident another suspect was located, however, he is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
“I would say it’s poetic justice, you want to sit there and steal from people,” said Barefoot Bay resident Chuck Stotes.

Alligators are generally timid towards humans and tend to walk or swim away if one approaches. This has led some people to the practice of approaching alligators and their nests in a manner that may provoke the animals into attacking in self-defense. In Florida, feeding wild alligators at any time is illegal.
