The police on Thursday, December 10, arraigned a 20-year old labourer, Ishaku Barau, at a Mararaba Grade 1 area court, in Nasarawa state, for allegedly stealing five cartons of smoked fish.
The suspect is standing trial for two counts charge of criminal trespass and theft.
According to the police prosecutor, Friday Adaji, one Sabo Ibrahim of Tudun Wada, Mararaba complained to the police at ‘A’ divisional police station.
He told the court that on December 7, at about 3.30 am, the accused person criminally trespassed into the complainant’s shop located at Mararaba Market, Vanguard reports.

Adaji added that Barau attempted to cart away five cartons of smoked fish and one bag of fresh onions valued at N70,000 before luck ran out on him when he was apprehended by a vigilant group in the area.
The police prosecutor explained that the offence contravened the Provision of Section 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
If the accused person is found guilty of the charge, he might be imprisoned for up to three years, with fine or both.
When the charge was read to the accused person, he pleaded ‘not guilty, to all of the allegations brought against him.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Albert Maga granted the accused bail of 100,000 and one surety in like sum.
The judge ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must submit a passport photograph or National Identity Card before adjourning the case to December 22.
