Louis van Gaal's job at Manchester United is in doubt after their Champions League dumping.
The Daily Star says he will have to win the Premier League this season to be sure of avoiding the sack.
The Dutchman, who has spent more than £250m on big name signings since taking charge, still has the backing of the Old Trafford board despite some mediocre results and criticism that his tactics are boring.
But United have made winning the title their priority this season and club chiefs will not accept just a top four finish and return to the Champions League.
Van Gaal is one of the highest paid bosses in European football and United want to see a return on their investment, otherwise his position will be under threat with Carlo Ancelotti waiting in the wings.
