Updated - Adds comments by Dr Zammit Dimech - A court ruled today that three directors of the Seabank Hotel including Nationalist MP Francis Zammit Dimech have no case to answer for with regard to the death of a worker at the hotel, and they were discharged.
Dr Zammit Dimech, Arthur Gauci, 46, from Mellieha and Silvio Debono, 56, from Mellieha, had been charged with negligence that led to the death of a Latvian man, Maksims Artamonovs, 27.
Mr Artamonovs was dismantling scaffolding in the car park beneath the nightclub when the whole structure collapsed, killing him instantly.
The young man was employed by B&B Holdings and Investments Ltd, which was contracted to work on the hotel’s €20 million refurbishment project.
Defence lawyers Giannella de Marco, Mario de Marco and Michael Sciriha appeared for the directors.
The case will continue against two directors of a construction company and three architects - Etienne Bartolo, 37, from Zebbug, Angelus Bartolo, 62, from Zebbug, and architects Robert Sant, 52, from Balzan, Reuben Gatt, 40, from Marsa and Pierre Farrugia, 46 from Ta Xbiex.
