Mamelodi Sundowns could be without captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele for next Wednesday's Telkom Knockout final against Kaizer Chiefs.
|||Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns could be without inspirational captain and defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele for next Wednesday's Telkom Knockout final against Kaizer Chiefs in Durban.
Mphahlele has been an integral part of the Downs defence for the last couple of years, rarely missing a game for the Brazilians, also having recently made a 50th consecutive start for his team.
But misfortune struck the former Moroka Swallows defender earlier this week when he broke down at training. Sundowns confirmed the news on their official website, adding that the chances are slim of 'Rama' recovering.
“The Mamelodi Sundowns technical team was sent into consternation when captain and inspirational leader Ramahlwe Mphahlele pulled out of training on Tuesday and limped at training on Wednesday. “Mphahlele was diagnosed as having suffered a quad strain, and will be going in for a scan on Thursday.
“There are fears that he is doubtful for the final and the medical team will be sweating and watching the outcome of the scan tomorrow, hoping the captain recovers in time - which is a most unlikely situation.” - African News Agency (ANA)
