Fighting between the DRC army and Uganda’s rebels reportedly left 39 people dead in Beni territory, within North Kivu province.
|||Kinshasa - Fighting between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) army and Uganda’s Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels have left 39 people dead in Beni territory, within North Kivu province, military spokesman for the UN mission in Congo, Amouzoun Codjo Martin, said on Wednesday.
“The fighting that occurred on November 29 left one peacekeeper, seven DR Congo soldiers, ten civilians and 21 ADF rebels dead,” Codjo said during the UN’s weekly press conference.
He said the UN peacekeepers will continue with their military operations in North Kivu province, in coordination with the Congolese army, against ADF fighters.
Codjo noted that operations of the UN force in Beni territory is aimed at neutralising remaining ADF fighters, who had recently committed atrocities against the UN force, Congolese army as well as civilians in the eastern part of DR Congo.
