The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu on Wednesday, December 9, vowed to recover all funds stolen from the coffers of the Nigerian government.

Speaking in Abuja at the commemoration of the international anti-corruption day themed: ‘‘Break the Corruption Chain’’ , he said the anti-graft agency is on top of all investigations of monies stolen in the name of arms procurement.
Magu said all culprits involved in the arms deal must be brought to book.
He said: “Out of this figure, 280 cases were filed in courts and 78 convictions were secured. In this period also, eight interim and two final forfeiture orders were handed down by various courts on applications brought by the Commission.”

Since July, 2015, a former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki has been in the net of security operatives following allegation of an illegal arms during his tenure as NSA.
Dasuki who is currently facing charges before a Federal High Court in Abuja is also being accused of money laundering by the Nigerian government.

But in his defence, the former NSA has also said that he is not afraid to face all the charges against him and that all he did as the country’s security adviser was done in the interest of Nigeria.
Also, some other political big wigs including the chairman of the African Independent Television (AIT), Raymond Dokpesi and former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa have been implicated in the arms deal scandal.
Meanwhile, taking a cue from this year’s anti-corruption theme, Magus added that the commission has resolved to break the chains of corruption which undermines democracy and rule of law as well as promotes terrorism and other threats to human existence.
The EFCC scribe also said that since the beginning of 2015, the commission has investigated 1,881 cases, adding that on assumption of duty, as the commission’s helmsman, he has placed machineries that will help sanitize the EFCC internally.
He also urged civil society organisations and individuals to help EFCC in its struggle to end corruption in Nigeria.
‘‘Our common resolve is far stronger than the challenges we face in the fight against corruption. I call on you to embrace the EFCC’s public enlightenment campaigns, the activities of our Zero Tolerance Clubs in tertiary institutions and our inter-faith initiatives because in this effort to break the corruption chain, no man is an island and only when we work together can we make a difference,’’ Magu said.
Various other groups, including a group led by the leader of the popularly Nigerian Brekete Family, Ahmed Isa and the Bring Back Our Girls group marched to the Supreme Court in Abuja to protest the level of corruption in Nigeria.
The group told Naij.com that it decided to march to the apex court because the chief justice of the federation’s office is located there.
The group said the judiciary is seen as the weakest link in breaking corruption chain and corruption is the major reason over 200 girls abducted from their dormitory in Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno state by Boko Haram terrorists have not been rescued.
