ArmInfo. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry accused the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry of distorting information on the negotiation process. Thus, the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Aykhan Hajizade, touching upon Mirzoyan's statements today regarding the peace treaty and communications, accused Yerevan of trying to distract public opinion from the real situation.
According to him, the Armenian side sent its comments on the draft agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, last submitted by Azerbaijan in June, approximately 70 days later, at the end of August.
This cannot be considered acceptable. Because in order for the peace agreement to be sustainable and successful, the project must clarify the problematic issues between the two countries in a number of areas, "said the representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. He then accused Armenia of trying to revive the work of the OSCE Minsk Group, thereby allegedly "narrowing the scope of the text of the peace treaty" and calling for signing it in any form.
According to him, this creates many questions regarding Armenia's true intentions. Then Baku again demanded that Armenia change the Constitution, linking the signing of the treaty to this condition. "Armenia knows that it has written and signed obligations to open communications linking the western regions of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, but has not fulfilled them for about the last 4 years. As for the opinions on the involvement of a foreign private company in the process on the territory of both countries, we note that Azerbaijan has never held discussions on involving a third party in the process on its territory," Hajiyev summed up.
Today, September 9, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that Yerevan had sent Baku a completed version of the draft peace treaty. Earlier, the Armenian Prime Minister offered Azerbaijan to sign the agreed points of the peace treaty and continue negotiations on the remaining issues. According to him, 13 points out of 17 have been fully agreed upon, and 3 more have been partially agreed upon.
