Farhan Akhtar, who made his directorial debut with the much-loved film Dil Chahta Hai, recently shared some surprising trivia about the movie. Released 23 years ago, Dil Chahta Hai is celebrated for its portrayal of friendship, love, and life, starring Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni, and Dimple Kapadia.
In a recent interview with Faye D'Souza, Farhan Akhtar revealed that Aamir Khan was not the original choice for the role of Akash in Dil Chahta Hai. Initially, Farhan had offered the role to Akshaye Khanna and had envisioned Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan in the other lead roles. However, things didn't work out with them, and Farhan eventually approached Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan.
Farhan shared that, after facing some challenges, he presented the script to Aamir Khan. Aamir, who had been playing serious roles at the time, expressed his desire to play Akash. Akshaye Khanna, on the other hand, graciously accepted the change, telling Farhan that he loved the film and knew it needed to be made, so he would take on the role that was offered to him. Farhan noted that it's rare to find actors who gracefully step aside from a lead role.
As a result, Akshaye Khanna played Siddharth, also known as Sid, while Saif Ali Khan portrayed Sameer. Their camaraderie in the film is considered one of the highlights of Dil Chahta Hai. Farhan finally collaborated with Hrithik Roshan for his 2004 film Lakshya, which also received great reviews back then.
In the same interview, Farhan also revealed that he had initially offered the role of Don to Hrithik Roshan. However, Hrithik suggested that Shah Rukh Khan would be perfect to play the part. Farhan followed this advice, and Shah Rukh Khan delivered one of his most memorable performances in the Don franchise. Well, isn't this an exciting piece of entertainment news for you all?
On the work front, Farhan Akhtar was last seen in the movie Toofaan. As a producer, he has had a successful year with the box office hit Madgaon Express and the highly praised Mirzapur Season 3.
