Bajaj Chetak Set to Receive Improved Battery Cells
Following the successful launch of the world’s first CNG motorcycle, the Bajaj Freedom 125, and the largest Pulsar ever, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, Bajaj Auto is now turning its attention to its third-bestselling electric scooter, the Chetak. The Chetak, which recently received limited edition 3201 and 2901 variants, is poised for a significant upgrade.
According to reports, Bajaj is working on equipping the entire Chetak portfolio with new battery cells sourced from a different supplier. This strategic move is expected to enhance the scooter’s performance and range.
Just a few weeks ago, Bajaj introduced the Chetak 3201 Special Edition, featuring a higher range, a new TFT console, and a unique livery. Despite using the same 3.2 kWh battery pack as the current Chetak Premium, the 3201 boasted an impressive claimed range of 136 km, surpassing the Premium’s 126 km.
The secret to this increased range lies in the new battery cells, which are more efficient and energy-dense than those used in the previous model. This allows for a range boost without increasing the overall battery capacity.
With the transition to new cells, Bajaj is also planning to simplify the nomenclature of its Chetak variants. The base model, the Chetak 2901, is named after its 2.9 kWh battery pack. Similarly, the Premium and Urbane variants are expected to adopt a similar naming system, likely becoming 3201 and 3202, respectively.
As a result of these upgrades, prices for the Bajaj Chetak range are expected to increase slightly by ₹2,000-₹3,000. The top-spec Chetak Premium currently retails for ₹1.47 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in direct competition with the TVS iQube
