Armenian central electoral commission: constitutional reform upheld in referendum
The commission says 825,622 citizens (63.35% of participants of the referendum or 32.17% of people eligible to vote) supported the constitutional reform and 421,593 (32.35% or 16.42% respectively) voted against it.
The opposition does not recognize the announced results saying the referendum has been conducted with numerous illegalities and the results have been rigged, Novosti-Armenia reports.
The constitutional reform implies transition from the current half-presidential rule to the parliamentary model.
The voter list consists of 2,550,323 people. The amendments to the Constitution will be considered adopted if more than a half of the number of the people who have voted, but no less than one quarter of the number of the people in the list cast their votes in favor of it.
More than 100 international and several thousand local observers are involved in the process. --0---
